Paul Johnson, Past Council President and Board Member, said that the dinner, which was held at the Pegleg Pub and Steak House at Port de Plaisance, was the best such event he had attended in several years. Governor and Mrs. Franklin Richards, Collectivité President Franz Gumbs, and the Dominican Republic Council General, Mrs. Doris Elsa Vasquez Maritez and her husband, were special guests at the dinner party which was attended by approximately 80 Navy League members and guests.
The evening included a raffle and auction that enabled many attendees to carry away gifts valued at more than $2,000. During the evening’s festivities, Past Council President Art Nutcher presented a check to the “I Can” Foundation to use in support of the children. Council President Lloyd Tackling also presented a Plaque to Chris Coombs for his long-standing support of the Navy League Council.
All the members of the St. Maarten/St. Martin Navy League Council extend their best wishes to all members of our island community for 2009.
